I have heard,and read recently about the problem of Illiteracy in our Penal Institutions,County,State,and Federal.When I was in L.A.County,I was Totally Surprised when I saw how many of the inmates weren't able to read,or write.Also,how dangerous it could be,to be able to read,or write.One day a deputy came around to "CHARLEY ROW" asking if anyone wanted to go to School.About nine inmates and myself raised our hands.When we got to the Classroom there was Ten more from other rows'. When the teacher got through with introducing himself,he asked how far each of us had got to in our education.I was the only one who had made it to the twelfth grade level.When I saw the looks they gave me,I wished I had said third grade.After that was over the teacher started having us read a few lines out of an history book,Bad Idea,when you put any inmate in the position to Humiliate themselves,you could be inadvertently causing yourself to be Hurt,or worse.When I told the Teacher about having Five Doctors that would help me get into Med School,one of the inmates asked me if I thought I was smarter than everyone else? I said No,or I wouldn't be in Jail.I never was without Cigarettes,when I got close to running out of them, I would write Letters to there Families,Writs to there Lawyers. I charged more for the Writs,because they dealt with legal matters.

The other night when I Shocked you so much on the Subject of Prostitution,there was one example of the Cruel side of that life I didn't get a chance to tell you.This happened in San Fransisco,in an area known as "THE TENDERLOIN",I was living on Ellis Street. My old lady usually had her hair done up every Two Days,and a couple of her lady friends would come and have theres done also.Well, one of them didn't show up,which set my old lady to worrying,she asked me if I would go over and see what was wrong.When I got there,I wasn't ready for what I saw.She was lying on the floor,right in Front of Her Apartment Door,Her Throat was Sliced Open from Ear-to-Ear.She was Very Dead.Without disturbing any of the Crime Scene,I backed off and went down the hallway to the Managers Apartment and,had him call the Cops.I took him to her apartment,and showed him what had happened.When the Cops arrived they asked me what I saw,I told them how I came to be there,then they asked the Manager about her,and he said she was a Hooker that gave nobody a hard time,payed her rent on time,and had a Two Year Old Girl that lived with her mother.He also told them about Three or Four PIMPS had been Threatening Her because she was an Independent Hooker who wouldn't Join up with them.Pimps do not like Independent Hookers.You see,the Money She makes is all hers,if she was Hooked up with a Pimp,they would be KEEPING ALL of IT.They would Feed Her,Dress Her,and get her HOOKED on DRUGS.That is the way it is,when I got Home,and told Kim what had happened,she wanted to go where the Pimps hung-out,and Kill them ALL. THAT WAS NOT A GOOD NIGHT. RED

When I started this Blog I told Everybody that I would tell "NO LIES",I have not told One LIE. I also told everybody that "STREET LIFE",has no glamor at all. It is a constant study of Depravity from one end to the other.I also said Everybody I knew in that life is now DEAD, except Me.Ever since I left the Streets in 1979 I have been on a search for a reason for Me to be Alive.I have been told by Two Judges that I should write a Book about my life on the Streets of America.And,Hold no Punches when Describing such a life.Now, the other night that everybody said was so Disgusting and Depraved,that was just a Sample,the Tip of the Iceberg.When I describe the life I led back in my Past,instead of Criticizing me,You should be thinking of how you could keep your BOY or GIRL from winding up like me.My Dads oldest brother had a Daughter that used to leave home,and be gone for weeks,they lived in Lancaster,Ca. at the time,She was Sixteen at the time this was going on,when My Uncle and Aunt asked her what she was doing when she disappeared,She told them she had a Boyfriend in L.A. And, the rest was none of there business.Uncle John found out later she was engaging in things he could not,and would not talk about.After a few years had gone by Uncle John found out about my life from my Dad ,at a Family Reunion in Grants Pass,OR. my Uncle asked me if I knew why his daughter did what she did,I asked him one Question,Uncle John,Have you ever asked her,if she liked what she was doing? He looked at me and ran out of the house and cried.NOBODY in that House could understand why i asked him that. RED

When the reporter asked me for my opinions on the subjects I told you about last night,(by the way,I told him everything about my past)well,when he heard what my opinions were,he was flabbergasted. My experiences in the drug culture of the 60s'started at the Bottom of the Drug LADDER.My first rung of the ladder was Marijuana,I was so new to the scene I paid this black guy on Bourbon ST.$5.00 for a MATCHBOX.At that time a Matchbox was one of the little Wooden Match Boxes.The Quality in those days was pretty good,but you try to sell that same stuff today,you would probably be Shot for dealing Bunk.By the way the stuff I bought from the black guy was "OREGANO",that should tell you how dumb I really was.Getting back to my Opinion,I am not in favor of decriminalizing Marijuana.The Marijuana that is on the Market Today is constantly being Improved.The Growers are always Cross Breeding time and time again to improve the Quality of the HIGH.Before I left Oregon a HYBRID STRAIN came on the Market called "BC BUD",it was Cultivated in Vancouver BC,the weed was so strong,so intense that the Dealers were Trading PURE COCAINE,At Dollar for Dollars worth for the BC BUD.That is $1,000 worth of PURE COCAINE,for $1,000 worth of BC BUD.That Weed could put your STUFF in the Dirt.(that's STRONG DOPE).That BUD is NOT A SOFT DRUG.Personally,If I had Kids,I would Worry about them so much,I would contract a BIG BLEEDING ULCER.No way would I Vote to put that Substance on the open market.
